Poverty is a huge issue in this country right now. Over 14 million people in the UK live in poverty, including more than 4.5 million children, and with the continuing impact of COVID-19, things are only getting more difficult.
Today, with your help, we have been able to open our first Foodbank in the UK. Over the past few weeks, our volunteers have been working extremely hard in Mirfield, Yorkshire, to renovate the premises and get it ready for today’s launch. With your support and generosity we were able to acquire the items that we needed to set up. Not just food, but shelving, a computer, paint, carpet, seating and so much more – all of these things were generously donated to help the Foodbank. Our amazing volunteers gave up many hours of their time and their expertise to collect, assemble and install all the donated items; as well as decorating the premises.
We have been inundated with so many generous donations of food. Local residents have been bringing bags of food and local supermarkets have also been donating. We have a reserve of staple foods such as cereal, rice, pasta, canned goods, bread and milk; as well as snacks like crisps and biscuits. We also have non-food items such as toilet paper and various other toiletries. You can find out more about the Foodbank, items needed and how you can help on our Foodbanks Page.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped us make this food bank a reality. Whether you donated food, furnishings, your time or expertise; we cannot thank you enough for everything you have done. With your continued support, we will help people in need.
